The first week of August we spent in Hong Kong. It was the first time the kids and I had been out of Japan since moving here, and we all really enjoyed the trip (Except for the tropical storm, and the food that disagreed with all of us at one time or another…) Hong Kong is only a two hour flight from Okinawa, but a whole world different. We stayed at a YMCA, which was right in the middle of everything. We could see Victoria harbor and the Space museum from our window.
Our flight was delayed, so the kids didn’t get into bed until real late our first day there, so Sunday was a just go out and walk around the hotel area day. We were across the street from the waterfront, so we watched the ferrys, walked along the harbour and found a park/playground over the top of a local train station. Monday afternoon I took Sean to the bird garden, where bird aficiando’s hang around listening to who’s bird is the best singer, and there are many birds for sale
That afternoon we went to the space museum, then found an Indian restaurant so Sean could enjoy his new favorite chicken tikka masala and naan bread. It was a little spicy for him, but he still enjoyed. And here is Catie demonstrating her excellentrestaurant manners
Jeff and Sean got to watch the light show they have every night, Catie decided she was too tired and wanted to go home to bed.
Tuesday we went to amusement park, only to find after we went in that all the rides were closed to the closeness of a tropical storm.
Wednesday was a lazy day with some time in the pool in the morning, and a short trip to the space museum again with Sean while Catie was napping. Then out to dinner at a sushi go round, hoping to find some food the kids would eat. Unfortunately the tofu soup was out of dehydrated package without fresh tofu, and the tamago wasn’t as good as at home. Jeff and I did enjoy the salmon and mango rolls however, and we’ll have to replicate them back at home some time.
Thursday was a highlight of our trip with a day at Disney. The weather was forecasted to have showers and thunderstorms through the day due to the tropical storm, but we stayed dry all day and the park was nearly empty, hardly a line on any of the rides.
That’s the top of Caties head next to Jeff
Fortunately I had brought a change of clothes, which we used after the kids played in the water. It gave Jeff and I a chance to take turns riding space mountain while they splashed.
A ride on the carousel, during which Catie cried the whole time because she didn’t get to ride the one horse she had picked out. Sean was very happy with his horse though
Sean and Catie also had a great time posing with characters as there was hardly any lines. There was also a fun water parade
and more characters. This first on is the face Catie decided to use whenever someone wanted to take her picture. The Hong Kong people were really aggressive when it came to taking Catie’s picture and she didn’t like it.
Friday was our last full day, and that afternoon we went to a very cool science museum. We wished we had more time to spend there, the kids had a great time.
